Smith is accused of selling an unsuitable number of non-traditional investments, short leveraged funds, inverse and leveraged exchange-traded funds (ETFs) commodities, options and derivatives. Brokers have a duty to sell securities based on the client’s age, net worth, investment portfolio, and investment sophistication. If they do not, their former firm may be liable for investment losses suffered, as they had a duty to reasonably supervise them while they were employed there.
Julie Ann Smith was registered with Griffin, Kubik, Stephens & Thompson in Chicago, Illinois from June 1993 until March 1994, Donaldson, Lufkin & Jenrette Securities Corp in Jersey City, New Jersey from April 1994 until March 1998, Royal Alliance Associates in New York, New York from September 1999 until January 2000, IDS Life Insurance in Minneapolis, Minnesota from January 2000 until July 2006 and Ameriprise Financial Services in Durham, North Carolina from January 2000 until January 2015. She has two customer disputes against her, one of which is currently pending. She is not licensed within the industry.
